Dionisio Parayno, 45 of Pulong Buli, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija is on his way to owning a purebred Bulgarian Murrah Buffalo (BMB) bull.
Four years after he was granted by Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) a purebred BMB bull under its Bull Loan Program (BLP), Parayno is now awaiting for the approval of the documents that will transfer to him the ownership of a pure Bulgarian Murrah Buffalo bull that has proven its genetic productivity.
Parayno took care and managed the bull as breeder of the female buffaloes in his neighboring barangays. Under his management, the bull was able to impregnate numerous buffalo cows producing a total of 46 calves from year 2000 to late part of 2004. This is almost double of the requirement of PCC, which is to produce 25 calves before ownership of the bull will be legally transferred to the caretaker-recipient.
Thorough recording of the bulls breeding performance and documenting every birth of calf out of the animals service were part of Paraynos routine.

A report based on his records was submitted. Mario N. Delizo, PCC technician assigned at the national impact zone has officially confirmed the birth of the calves and recommended the transfer of the bull ownership to Parayno.
It was not as easy as one could imagine, however, Parayno said. At first the bull did not want to mount the female buffaloes in the area. As one of the board of directors of Pulong Buli Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative, a recipient of PCCs 25-cow dairy buffalo module, he requested the officers to have a meeting with the members and suggested that they put their animals in a night corral. It did not take so long and 15 out of 17 animals placed in the night corral with the bull got pregnant. Parayno was paid P300.00 for every pregnancy. In the early part of 2004, service fee has increased to P500.00 for every pregnancy. |
In his own simple ways, Parayno did not only earn extra income, but has and will continue to contribute to the governments genetic improvement program, as his BMB bull services not only the pure BMB cows but both native and crossbreds as well.
NMIS . . . (from p. 8)
leading to a HACCP certification. In fact, the certification is a mandatory requirement in obtaining a AAA accreditation as only AAA accredited meat establishments are allowed to export their products. Failure to comply will lead to the downgrading or lowering of the accreditation of a AAA to AA which can only mean that they can only trade their products here in the Philippines thus losing that all-important business advantage in the world trading scene. DA Administrative Order No. 19 explicitly prescribes the mandatory application of HACCP in all NMIS accredited AAA meat establishments.
