Introduction
It was again a busy year for the Livestock Development Council.
There were the continuing concerns in policy formulation, in program monitoring and evaluation, in providing technical and secretariat services to the GMA Livestock Program.
There were refinements made in the Industry Road Maps, continuing support to and partnership with Industry Boards/associations, periodic consultations with poultry and livestock groups, design and dissemination of information and other communication materials, sponsorship and participation in industry workshops/dialogues, evaluation of proposals requesting funding support, establishing linkages with all sectors relevant to the industry.
A major innovation in year 2004 was the deliberate and focused concern –not only for the farmer-producers – but for the consumer as well. This concern was articulated in the President’s 10-point agenda where the reduction in the prices of wage goods was specified. Hence, the DA was mandated to formulate mechanisms to bring about reduced prices of wage goods for consumers without jeopardizing the interests of its primary client - the farmers. In the case of LDC, these are the livestock and poultry farmers.
The following report covers relevant developments in the livestock and poultry industry where the LDC was an active participant.
